Beartooth Highway

One thing that should never be missed when visiting the Yellowstone area is a trip over the Beartooth Highway. Luckily, the Rocky Mountain RV Park + Cabins is one of the best places to stay while making this once in a lifetime drive. The Beartooth Highway is regarded as one of the most scenic drives in America and will take younearly 11,000 feet into the sky.  To drive the Beartooth highway you will begin by driving over the Northern road of Yellowstone passing waterfalls and scenic vistas. Then you will cross the Yellowstone River and Lamar River and enter the Famous Lamar Valley.

The Lamar valley has been referred to as the “American Serengeti” as its sweeping valley is home to herds of Buffalo, Elk, Antelope and deer. The Lamar Valley is one of the best places in the world to view packs of Wolves.  Bears are often seen hunting and foraging along the rivers, valleys and hillsides. You then continue on through the high mountain towns of Silvergate and Cooke City and begin your climb over the Beartooth Mountains. You will rewarded with spectacular views, beautiful Alpine lakes, furious mountain waterfalls, and on clear days views stretching hundreds of miles in all directions.

After reaching the top, you will descend the switchbacks into the Ski town of Red Lodge, Montana. Treat yourself to a snack, visit the local shops downtown and eagerly begin your return. Don’t worry that you are traveling the same road, the views are completely different while traveling the opposite direction. Upon returning to the Lamar Valley keep a sharp watch as the animals are beginning to stir after the warm afternoon and are beginning their evening feeds and hunts.
